Krumelur

For kids, or for those of us who never wants to forget how fun it is to play!
Or in the words of Pippi Longstocking "Kära lilla krumelur, jag vill aldrig bliva stur"
Sorry, I have no translation for that one, anyone who can  help me out?

What's holy?

Throwing out books is impossible to me. I save them all, even the sadest, cheapest little paperback I'm unable to put in the thrash. Ok, I admit, I'm not very good with throwing things away at all, I usually try to give them away or stuff them in the basement, who knows when they might come in handy? But with books it's different, books are, no matter the content, a bit holy to me. I was using old books as a part of an illustration project a few years ago and I remember that I needed to close my eyes while tearing them apart.
Anyway, if you create things that are as beautiful as this screen out of the books, you are totally forgiven. What a wonderful way to end a book life!

The screen is handmade from old books by designer By Samantha Parsons and Studio Sam.

A new life

I always had a faschination with ruins and old abandoned houses. They scare me and tickles my imagination at the same time. I went visiting a friend who lives in the countryside of Sweden a while ago and she told me there were two abandoned houses a couple of kilometers away from her house and I was immediatley intrigued and presuaded her to go for a walk and check them out. They were the most beautiful old, wooden houses and a tree had grown right through one of them. My friend dind't want to go inside so we stayed at the front door, peaking in, and obviously the house had just been left, since there were still curtains and furniture (60's style) left. I both felt sorry for this beautiful house, found it spooky and started making up stories in my head about the people who had lived there. Somehow, to me, old houses carries with them all the stories of the people who lived in it wich gives them some kind of a soul. Maybe that's why I feel so sorry for the abandoned ones, almost like they were human.
A couple of days ago I came across this awesome blog and found this inspiering project by Naumann Architektur. Unfortunately I don't read german so I can't tell you more about them, but I am in awe of this project. So poetic in a way, that the old house got a new soul.

Just perfect!

I know that posting something from Design*Sponge may seem a bit like old news to many of you, but I could not resist to post this one. The pics comes from one of the excellent sneeks peeks of blog, probably the best one so far if you ask me! It's the parisian home of Ombline de Kersabiec. The colour scheme is just fantastic, a perfect blend of pastel, neon and neutrals! And the home has just the right mix of industrial touches and soft elements to really really appeal to me. The raw walls, the naked light bulbs, the geometric kitchen. I love it all!

Same same but different

I've been drooling over the Hay shelfs (bottom pic) for a few years now and today I found these similar but also different shelfs over at Tiger's blog. The designer, Yukari Hotta, was born in Japan but studied here in Copenhagen. The shelves Kile are held together only with wooden wedges. Which one do you prefer?

Spring ud!

Hooray, spring is finally here! On every bench in the city there are people with their faces turned towards the sun. We are so starved. I'd like to think that someday I will have a summerhouse like the one below. I don't know if it's actually a summerhouse but if I had one, I would like it to be like this or like this.

I'm drowning in magazines and kitchen stuff!

We are renovating the kitchen and so far everything has gone according to our plans. The new flooring is there, the walls and ceiling are paintend and I'm so looking forward to having a livingroom again, without all the kitchen stuff that has been living there since we started. I also realized I have a TON of magazines that I need to find a place for. Maybe this is a good compact living soloution?
