Swedish summer by Wai Lin Tse

These beautiful pictures by photographer Wai Lin Tse were posted on Design*Sponge a little more than a year ago and quite a few of their readers were upset and wondered what they were doing on a DESIGN BLOG! Maybe the context was not presented clearly enough that time, but I feel that it's importat to look for inspiration also in places where it immediately looks as there is none to find. Anyways, the photos were shot at an old farm in Sweden, now a days only serving as a summer house for the children and the grandchildren of the man who used to live there. Such a relief sometimes to see that there are places that escaped the renovation hysteria of our times. I bet the people who goes here on their vacation are focusing on relaxing instead of painting, and it makes me so happy! And of course, I think the photographer is very talented managing to capture a piece of the essence of swedish summer, and that these photos deserve another round!

22m2 in Christianshavn, Copenhagen

Tiiiiny place (22m2 or 236sqft) in Christianshavn. I like the accenturated plumbing in the kitchen and the colour of the stairs!

Copenhagen mural

This is a house in sankt hans gade (in the heart of Nørrebro Copenhagen) with a great mural. I think it's so well done, even the frames of the windows have the same coulour as the wall! I pass it by frequently since it's my own neighbourhood and everytime i think of how I would love to see more of this type of facades in the city! I am going outside now to enjoy the beautiful weather, since the man is home sick and needs to sleep.

Bad sleeper

I am a very bad sleeper. I always was. I think it runs in the family since my father is exactly the same and his father, my grandfather, used to get out of bed in the middle of the night to take baths. It's like I sometimes get the wrong pillow, the pillow that carries bad dreams, when I should have made sure to choose the one that makes me dream of endless kissing! Thank you Miranda, you are a true inspiration!

Stephen Sollins

The New York based artist Stephen Sollins explores the disparity between high an low in his latest exhibition by transforming secondhand, embroidered linens into abstract modernist patterns. Sollins removes the old embroidery ant then re-embroiders the linen with exactly the same number of stitches in exactly the same colours. I have always found this discussion very interesting, the gap between the high art and the folkart, the good taste vs the bad taste. I'm way behind with everything this week. I've pushed the report I'm writing in front of me a few days now and I really have to take a bite of the sour apple and really get into it. Wouldn't it be nice sometimes to have your own door within the door, where you could slip through unseen?

Thank you so much to everyone who has answered my survey! Now I have a lot of writing to do, since we are handing in our projects in less than a week, but after reading your responses to my questions things has become a lot more clear! Thank you! The survey will be open for a while for more people to answer it so if you feel like helping out you can answer it here.
After the last post about the 22m2 warsaw appartment Mette wrote that she was looking for a good bedroom-in-livingroom soloution. I found this cube here and I think it looks pretty cool. Obviousy it won't work in a tiny tiny livingroom and it does aquire some cieling height but I like the fact that it's movable and kind of like a little hut! Cosy! The article has building instructions too, if you are the handy type!
Yesterday I also recieved an interesting comment on a post I wrote more than a year ago. What's your opinion on this subject?

21,5 m² or 226 ft² in Warzaw

Jakub Szczesny one of the core architects of  Centrala , a polish platform for  architects working on different projects both interior and exterior, recieved the challenging task to create a functional space to be used by the owner 3-4 times a week and occasional weekends.With limited budget and time he created this colorsplashed, Mickey Mouse style mini appartment with a convertible kitchenette. I'm impressed by how he managed to fit all the functions into such a small space and even though the shower had to be placed directly in the hallway (Hey! mine is in the bedroom!) it looks very airy! I'm not wild about the purple colour but I really like the boldness of the screaming yellow/green floors. I also think that the kitchenette soloution is one of the best I've seen so far. Looks like a million!

This year the swedish design group Front recieved the Torsten och Wanja Söderbergs prize of one million (!) swedish kronor for their konceptual and innovative design. I'm a long time fan of their work since I'm always intrigued by designers who work in the cross-field of art and design. Front are very cleverly intergrating stories into their objects and furniture and they still manage to keep the aesthetic prespective, which impresses me a lot! Well done Front! Below are some of my favourite projects, The Shade (objects and furniture with pencil shading), The bookshelf from their collection for Skitsch (with printed books on the doors) and the blow-away-vase for Moooi.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel As Dachshund in Various Lace-Up Ankle Boots by Sam Schonzeit

I love the title of this work, but I love the artist's comment on the series of little Cavalier King Charles Spaniels even more:
“They’re pretending to be something else, and they’re sort of embarrassed that they’ve found themselves in this position. But that’s very human, which is why people like them — because everyone can relate to the feeling that you’re not where you’re supposed to be.”
